Ian Machado Garry is making Islam Makhachev out to be the greatest fighter of all-time.
Garry is set to headline UFC 330 on Saturday in Chicago for the welterweight title. Ahead of the bout, Garry is a sizable underdog, and he knows that is because Makhachev has looked unbeatable. And that is what excites him, as Garry wants to beat Makhachev to prove how good he is.
“If anything, I put him on a pedestal on purpose,” Garry told MMA Fighting via Betvictor Casino. “I give him more respect than others because it’s earned and deserved. I put him on a pedestal as the best fighter walking the planet right now until proven otherwise. Because that’s the person I want to beat to become champion of the world.”
If Garry does beat Makhachev, it would be an upset and would be a statement win. Yet, the Irishman knows it won’t be easy as he knows Makhachev is the top pound-for-pound fighter for a reason.
Ian Machado Garry looking for violence against Islam Makhachev
Heading into UFC 330, Islam Makhachev has said he will finish Ian Machado Garry and make it look easy.
However, Garry is confident in his skills that he will be able to get it done, and do it violently.
“I think Islam is more than prepared for 25 minutes of violence,” Garry said. “He is a man who is dangerous in every round. He should feel confident. He should feel like he can get the job done because he’s done everything to warrant that feeling. However, the fights aren’t that simple and when he steps across the octagon from me on Aug. 16, I have my own plans. I have my own ideas on who’s going to win. That’s what everyone is going to tune in to find out.”
Garry enters UFC 330 with a record of 17-1 and is coming off a decision win over Belal Muhammad.
