Bob Iger and Josh Kushner are the new owners of the Los Angeles Lakers after agreeing to purchase the franchise for a record $12.5 billion.

The deal is the largest sale of a North American sports franchise, putting additional attention on the wealth and business backgrounds of the Lakers’ new owners.

Iger, the former CEO of Disney, has an estimated net worth of $600 million. His assets include a Los Angeles mansion reportedly worth around $33 million.

Iger and his wife, Willow Bay, originally purchased the property for $19.5 million in 1995 before extensive renovations increased its value.

Kushner’s fortune is considerably larger. Forbes estimates the Thrive Capital founder is worth approximately $5.2 billion, placing him among the world’s wealthiest individuals.

Kushner and his wife, supermodel Karlie Kloss, also own a $29.5 million Malibu property purchased in 2024.

The 6,200-square-foot residence includes six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows and three wrap-around terraces. Its unusual design has earned it the nickname “Wave House.”

It remains unclear how Iger and Kushner divided the financial commitment required for the $12.5 billion Lakers acquisition.

Given the difference in their estimated personal wealth, Kushner could have provided a larger portion of the investment.

Regardless of how the purchase was financed between them, Iger and Kushner are now taking control of one of the NBA’s most valuable and recognizable franchises.
