Islam Makhachev, Ian Machado Garry

This weekend at UFC 330, welterweight champion Islam Makhachev defends his title against short-notice risk-taker Ian Machado Garry.

So far, neither camp has traded any major barbs in the lead-up to the fight, except for Makhachev’s manager, who has repeatedly torched Garry on X and in multiple interviews.

Garry, on the other hand, has repeatedly confessed that he respects Makhachev’s achievements in the UFC and also that the 34-year-old is currently the best and most talented mixed martial artist on the planet. But the Irishman also believes that come August 15, he will dethrone Makhachev, after which he should be widely considered the best fighter alive.

After beating Belal Muhammad last year, “The Future” has done everything it takes to get Makhachev and the UFC’s attention, which was enough to get the title shot. Now, at UFC 330, he plans not just to win but to dominate for the first 3 rounds and secure a finish in the 4th.

After coming across Garry’s latest comments, Makhachev, in the latest episode of the UFC 330 Embedded: Vlog Series, added:

“I know he’s a humble guy. If not, we will make him humble. I respect all his skills and all his background. We’ll, see. It’s a different weight division. Big guys. I feel this division has real contenders. That’s why I have to be focused and train more.”

Islam Makhachev plans to do ‘whatever he wants’ with Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330

During a latest sit-down with the UFC, Islam Makhachev took a light-hearted jab at Ian Machado Garry by reminding “The Future” that Makhachev’s previous opponents had also predicted that they would knock him out or finish him, but come fight night, those predictions never came true.

And this weekend, he will ruin Garry’s plans and pre-fight forecasts. The P4P king quipped:

“Everybody says before the fight, ‘I’m gonna knock him out, I’m going to finish Islam, I’m going to stop his wrestling.’ But it’s not working. I’m gonna do whatever I want.”
