Josh Kushner will be required to sell his stake in the Miami Heat before he can purchase the Los Angeles Lakers, sources told The Athletic.

Kushner bought a 5% stake in the Heat in 2024.

Kushner will then serve as the controlling owner of the Lakers.

The Athletic also reported that Kushner is using his money to buy the team.

NBA rules cap institutional ownership at 20%, with the overall percentage owned by those investors at 30%.

There is no timeline for when governors will approve Bob Iger and Kushner's purchase of the Lakers.
