Daniel Cormier Conor McGregor Jon Jones Khabib Nurmagomedov Rivalry

Daniel Cormier recently explained why his rivalry with Jon Jones never crossed the line as Conor McGregor’s did with Khabib Nurmagomedov and DC’s team.

The rivalry between McGregor and Nurmagomedov was personal. A boatload of incidents spilled outside of fighting, with the bus incident being the most notorious of the lot. To this day, the two fighters never get along.

Shedding light on the same in a recent interview was Nurmagomedov’s friend and former teammate Daniel Cormier. The former two-division champ, speaking to ALF Global (in an interview that has now been deleted from YouTube), stated why nothing would come close to how hate-fueled and nasty the rivalry with McGregor was (still is).

I think that McGregor went too a way different level. He spoke about family, he spoke about religion, and all these other things that are off-limits. I know my brothers…There is no coming back from that. He could not do what I did with Jon Jones on this show. Khabib would want to wring his neck, and so does everybody else…McGregor did some bullsh*t man. It’s bad. It was bad, and that’s why he has no relationship with any of those guys and us.

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones Fought Twice; Khabib Nurmagomedov And Conor McGregor lit up UFC 229

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones first fought in January 2015. Cormier, who was the challenger, lost the fight via unanimous decision, which was also his first loss in his MMA career.

30 months later, Cormier took on Jones, this time as the light heavyweight champion. A head kick, followed by punches from Jones, ended DC’s reign as the 205lbs champion before the fight was deemed a no-contest after ‘Bones’ tested positive for a turinabol metabolite. The rivalry ended with a win for Jones and 1 no-contest.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, meanwhile, faced off at UFC 229, after months of disdain and rivalry loaded with violent intentions. The Russian made McGregor tap in the fourth round via a neck crank to win the UFC lightweight belt.
