Luka Doncic has promised to bring another championship to Los Angeles following the Lakers’ surprise $12.5 billion sale to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner.

The 27-year-old superstar, now the central figure of the franchise following LeBron James’ departure, reacted positively to the ownership change and said he is ready to work with the new owners.

“Being a Laker means everything to me, and I’m excited to get back on the court and bring a championship to LA,” Doncic wrote.

“I’ve gotten used to big changes over these last few years, but I know that no matter what, there is no limit to the potential of this iconic franchise. I look forward to meeting Josh and Bob so we can get to work building something special in LA together,” he added.

Doncic’s comments signal confidence in the Lakers’ direction despite questions about whether the current roster is strong enough to compete for a championship.

Los Angeles is still expected to be a playoff contender and could make additional roster moves during the season.

The ownership change comes just 14 months after Mark Walter acquired control of the Lakers from the Buss family at a $10 billion valuation.

The new $12.5 billion agreement represents a $2.5 billion increase and would set another record for a US sports franchise sale.

The transaction still requires approval from the NBA Board of Governors, with the process potentially taking several weeks.

Iger and Kushner had previously been involved in efforts to secure a potential NBA expansion franchise in Las Vegas before shifting their attention to purchasing the Lakers.
