Alas, no result is guaranteed in this sport, and Song knows that. He has been on a rollercoaster ride during his stint with the promotion, but he is ready to prove that he can finally step up to the plate at the elite level.
In a recent interview, Song made it clear that he wants a championship opportunity if he defeats Umar.
Song wants title shot if he beats Nurmagomedov
“Everyone knows Umar is the best fighter,” Song told MMA Junkie. “If I beat him, UFC will definitely give me the title shot after this. I believe in myself that I can win this fight for sure.”
“For me, right now is perfect time for me,” Song said of facing Nurmagomedov. “I feel like I fought a lot of good fighters, so I got more experience. So, for this fight, I’m super ready. I had a very great camp. I started my camp at Team Alpha Male and before the camp, I went to Georgia for wrestling for almost two weeks.
“In Georgia, I trained with like all the big champs, world champs – defense, offense, some tricks I have never seen, so it’s good experience. I learned a lot, but I started my camp at Team Alpha Male, and my coach Urijah (Faber) taught me some tricks on how to fight against Umar. I am so confident this time.”
