Stephen Curry has made his position on his future with the Golden State Warriors clear as he approaches the final stages of his NBA career.

During an interview with CNBC, Curry was asked whether LeBron James’ decision to leave the Lakers in free agency made the possibility of changing teams more attractive.

The 38-year-old quickly dismissed the idea.

“Not at all. I’ve always stated that I want to be a lifer with Golden State,” Curry said. “What we’ve built there. The fact that I get to run it back this year with Draymond [Green] and Coach [Steve] Kerr.”

Curry is entering the final season of the four-year, $215.4 million contract he signed in 2022.

His contract situation, combined with Golden State’s failure to add another superstar this offseason, has contributed to speculation about his long-term future.

However, Curry indicated that remaining with the only NBA franchise he has played for remains his priority.

“All the contract stuff, this NBA thing from year-to-year is crazy. Things change really fast,” Curry said. “But I do know my interest and mission is to stay in Golden State and be competitive is there, and the contract stuff will take care of itself.”

Curry is eligible for a two-year, $136.7 million extension that would keep him with the Warriors through the 2028-29 season.

Golden State instead focused much of its offseason on improving depth and adding younger talent, including No. 11 overall pick Yaxel Lendeborg.

Questions nevertheless remain about how long the Warriors will keep their veteran core together, particularly if the team struggles during the season.
