The Minnesota Timberwolves waived guard John Konchar. The Wolves had acquired Konchar in a trade that saw Cody Williams also join Minnesota, while Josh Green was set to the Utah Jazz.

The Timberwolves were reportedly going to stretch Konchar's $6.2 million salary at a hit of just over $2 million per season for the next three seasons. August 29 was the deadline for teams to waive a player while stretching their salary for the 2026-27 season.

By stretching Konchar's cap hit, the Wolves will create enough room to complete the Jonathan Kuminga signing. Minnesota will also have enough room under their second-apron hard cap to fill out their roster with another veteran minimum signing. With the Timberwolves being down Donte DiVincenzo for most, if not all, of the season, it's expected that the team will fill their 15th standard roster spot.

Konchar spent the first six-and-a-half seasons of his career with the Memphis Grizzlies before being traded to the Jazz ahead of last season's trade deadline. The 30-year-old wing is expected to have interest from several teams after he clears waivers on Monday.
