UFC welterweight contender Uros Medic suffered a serious leg injury just hours before the biggest win of his career at UFC Belgrade.

Uros Medic entered the UFC welterweight title mix with a wild finish against Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Belgrade earlier this month. In his Serbian homecoming, Medic knocked out Rodriguez in 30 seconds to extend his four-fight winning streak.

Medic, a Dana White’s Contender Series alum, is one of the welterweight division’s brightest young stars amidst his current run in the Octagon. After earning what stands as the biggest win of his career, Medic could potentially be set up for more marquee bouts in the near future.

But just hours before his UFC Belgrade highlight-reel finish, Medic suffered a freak leg injury that would’ve forced many fighters to withdraw on short notice.

Uros Medic fought through torn meniscus to earn KO win in UFC Belgrade homecoming

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Medic revealed what happened at the beginning of UFC Belgrade fight week.

“Honestly, we were just warming up, and my knee popped out of place and was like, ‘Whoa, what is this,'” Medic said.

“I tried to straighten my leg out, and it popped back in. Straight away I started to fill with liquid and started to swell. I’m like, ‘What the f— is happening?’ I did a check-up with the PI to see what’s happening, and they’re like, ‘Your ACL is fine. It looks most likely like a meniscus injury.’

“It scared me; it scared everybody. We were just sitting there like, ‘Guys, listen, we’re going into this fight even if it means with one leg. I’m going to fight this fight,” Medic continued. “I’ve gone to hell and back to return to my country, and I’m going in there.'”

Medic went on to reveal that he’ll undergo surgery in the coming days to repair the meniscus tear. A timeline for his return to the Octagon, as of this writing, remains unclear.

Before UFC Belgrade, Medic earned recent wins over Geoff Neal, Muslim Salikhov, and Gilbert Urbina. He’s won five of his last six fights and called out former champion Leon Edwards during his UFC Belgrade post-fight interview.

Who should Uros Medic fight next once he’s cleared to return? Let us know in the comments!
