Daniel Cormier still can’t recall the moment he was knocked out by Jon Jones via head kick nearly a decade after the fight.

Cormier and Jones had a heated rivalry that led to two grudges matches with UFC gold at stake. In their first encounter back in early 2015, “Bones” earned a unanimous decision victory. Jones was initially awarded a third-round head kick knockout in their 2017 rematch, but the result was overturned after “Bones'” drug test was flagged.

Cormier was on commentary this past Saturday for UFC 331 where Jones’ protege Gable Steveson suffered an upset 12-second knockout loss to Sean Sharaf at UFC 331. Fans have called out Cormier for criticizing Steveson for making his quick exit before Bruce Buffer announced the final result.

Those criticizing Cormier pointed out that “DC” was angered after the initial second loss to Jones and didn’t want to be a part of the result announcement, but he did ultimately stick around for the post-fight interview. Responding to the critics, Cormier admitted on X that he still can’t remember what happened after he got caught with the head kick.

“Wait I did that?

“Honestly this is what I mean when I say I remember nothing from after the kick landed until I got into the ambulance and 9 years later I still can’t find the memory,” Cormier wrote. “Every time I see something from that night post knockout it’s the first time I’ve seen it. That’s crazy.”

Cormier and Jones aren’t exactly chummy these days, but the bad blood between the two has cooled down significantly. The MMA legends were even cordial and professional enough to share screen time as opposing coaches for Alf Reality, which was filmed in Thailand.
